For some time now I've had the desire to attend and make a committment to practice yoga. Over the last two weeks, I have begun to attend Hatha classes at a studio on Commercial Drive. In light of my increased workload and the recent snow dump(s), yoga seems to be a natural choice to push myself in a new fitness direction while getting out from the cold. I'm not much of a night runner either, so I can practice yoga after dinner.

The quiet of this workout is remarkable. I am challenged by the simplicity of it, specifically what one coached nuance of an upturned arm or my pinky-toe placement can alter in the outcome (and feeling) of a pose. Frankly, I haven't been this sore in ages. I'm very pleased with the mood of the workout since I'm focusing on where each limb is supposed to go and so nothing within my busy mind takes over.

Breathing intentionally is hard work!
